Map Submission Guide
You’ve played Zombie Survival for a while, and now you want to submit your own map! Here are the steps you need to take.
1) Build the map.
Head over to the New Blood Map Build server.
Whilst each and every map is different, there are a few questions you should ask yourself before you start building your map:
What aspects of gameplay will your map focus on? Pro-running? Parkour? Spleef?
What layout will your map have? Will it have a start and an end?
What theme will your map have?
There are already many good maps on Zombie Survival. What will make your map different to those ones?
Also think about if you want your map to be buildable or non-buildable:
If you don’t want players to be able to place or break blocks, write nomodify as the answer to the relevant question in the template.
If you want players to be able to place and break blocks freely, write normal. Your map should have a wall of op-blocks to prevent players from leaving the map. Bedrock is automatically an op-block, but any specific block type can be made an op-block using /os blockprops [id] opblock true.
If you want players to be able to break and replace blocks, but not place blocks in new locations, write normal. When you’ve finished building your map, you should replace all air with op-air using /ra air op_air.
There are other points that you should keep in mind:
Don’t exploit any bugs in the game as part of your map.
Don’t place bots that could be mistaken for humans.
Avoid including overpowered secrets.
2) Submit the map.
When you’ve finished building your map, you should make a submission by creating a thread here, copying and pasting this template into your post, and answering the questions. Here we’ll explain how to answer the questions.
What name do you want your map to be called if accepted?
Here you can choose the name for your map when it’s on Zombie Survival. The management team will change the name of your map for you on Map Build if the map is accepted. Ensure that the name you choose has not already been taken by typing /mi [name].
What name is your map called currently on Map Build?
This is the default name consisting of your username and a number.
What round time do you want your map to have (minimum is 3 minutes and maximum is 10 minutes)?
Think carefully about how your map will play out. If it’s an open map, compare the size of your map to current open maps. If it’s a course map, time how long it takes to reach the end for a perfect run, and add a few minutes. We’d suggest not choosing 3 minutes as it denies players the opportunity to take the TrueBlood Challenge, and not choosing more than 8 minutes as players may get bored during the round.
What category is your map in on the current map list?
The map categories can be found here. If you're unsure which category to choose, feel free to leave it blank and the management team will decide for you. The management team may also categorise your map differently to what you've suggested if they feel that it's more suitable.
What makes your map stand out from other maps?
Give valid reasons why you think your map should be accepted. Does your map introduce a new gameplay mechanic? Does it look amazing?
What build permission do you want your map to have (nomodify, modifyonly, normal)? If normal, do you want to allow pillaring?
nomodify means that blocks can’t be broken or placed during the round. modifyonly means that non-op blocks can be broken and replaced, but new blocks can't be placed. normal means that non-op blocks can be freely broken and placed. If you choose normal, you can also choose to allow pillaring (jumping and placing blocks underneath you), in which case the pillaring rule will not apply. Unless your map is strongly suited for pillaring, we’d suggest not allowing pillaring.
Does your map have custom physics?
Unless you’ve used /os map physics on your map, the answer is no.
Does your map have custom MOTDs?
Unless you’ve used /os map motd on your map, the answer is no.
Does your map have custom bot AIs?
Unless you’ve used /botset on your map, the answer is no.
Does your map have animations?
Unless you've used /animation, the answer is no.
Does your map have secrets?
Secrets are locations in your map that are well-hidden. If you have secrets in your map, a Manager may get in touch to check that they're not overpowered.
Who are the authors of your map?
List the usernames that you’d like the reward to be given to. In general, the more builders there are, the lower the individual reward.
If your map is accepted, which server would you like your bloodbag reward to be given on (ZS or MB)?
For each username listed earlier, give the server that you’d like the reward to be given on.
3) Wait for a response from the management team.
The management team will aim to leave 5-7 days to give both staff and the community time to review the map. It may take longer than a week if the management team is busy, so please be patient.
4) Enjoy the trial.
The map may be selected to go on trial, during which the community can /like or /dislike the map. The trial ends once both of the following requirements have been fulfilled:
1) The trial has lasted for one week.
2) The map has been played five times.
3) The map has a minimum of 15 likes or dislikes in total.
If after three weeks, the map hasn't been played enough times or received enough likes or dislikes, it will be declined.
Once the trial has ended, the number of likes and dislikes will be compared. If the map has a like-dislike ratio of at least 2:1, it will be accepted, and if not, declined. If the numbers are close, the trial may be extended. Even if your map is declined, you can still keep it as part of your Map Build portfolio for a potential rankup in the future!
