What area of New Blood are you suggesting this for? Mapbuild
What is your suggestion and how will it work?
I have a lot of suggestions regarding the Mapbuild-server, especially the guest map. I know that this awesome server could attract way more players after some things got fixed.
Info map
- Make it visitable for everyone, not just respected ranked players. At the moment, the map is only accessible from the hub map.
- The map definitely needs a complete overhaul. I am not sure how anyone is supposed to read any of the actually useful info on the map, when all those bots are tightly grouped together:
Guest map
- Rename the map to "freebuild", as a lot of none-guest players build on it aswell.
- The grief on the map needs to be fixed more often:
- Remove the pixelart-wall, as there already is a map "pixelart".
- Create a zone around the spawn, preventing people from griefing it.
- Remove the "pixelart" bot and replace it with a portal, as people are constantly griefing the spawn by accident while trying to get to the pixelart map:
- Remove the info board. Use bots, message blocks or smaller text instead, maybe a small info-area at the spawn.
- Fix the block palette. There are a lot of unnecessary blocks in it, while more useful blocks are missing (especially rotated logs and slabs). The inventory looks very chaotic and some blocks appear twice or three times in the list:
I have created a block palette as an example on my map "westbeam8" using goodlyay's textures, since we are using his texpack on the hub map too. I have grouped the blocks into categories (wooden blocks, stone blocks etc) and added letter blocks as a generally more useful replacement for the "Floor 1/2/3" blocks on guest. I would be very happy if we could use those for the new guest map.
- Use blockdraw 6 for sprites instead of blockdraw 0. This places the plants at random offsets:
(left side: blockdraw 6, right side: blockdraw 0)
- Get rid of the layers. New players keep digging ugly holes into the floor to get further down.
- A more interesting map. While a completely flat grass map has its advantages, it is also really really boring and prevents players from building more interesting stuff. We could have a big flat area on the map, but also add hills, mountains or an ocean with islands for people who like to build ships etc.
More suggestions
- The blocks on freebuild should be the default block palette for newly created realms. Some players like to build something on the freebuild map and later copy it into their own map, but copying the levelblocks and texturepack is something not every player is capable of. Also: Do not use all of the 255 block IDs, so people can add their own blocks into it on their maps.
- Staff should be more active on guest and pixelart to fix grief and remove inappropriate builds. The only staff I regularly see on guest is my friend Deity. In case we need more staff players, then actively ask people, if they want to be operator instead of waiting for them to open a thread in the forums.
- I see a lot of staff people being a lot of the time on /hide. While I agree, that it helps searching for griefers, it is also pain for players who need help from staff, but can not see any in TAB or /who, even though they actually are there.
- Disallow political/nsfw content on publicly available maps. Especially on pixelart I see a lot of swastikas, hammer&sickle and dicks, which sometimes stay there for months, until a mad griefer appears and removes them. Rule #2 should be enforced more often:
- There should be a portal to the minigames map in the hub.
- Disallow the /tree command for guests, as a lot of people simply spam them around or place them in houses by accident:
- Remove empty maps and maps full of dicks, swastikas and nsfw imgprints for people doing /gr. A list of empty maps I found: sevo, scav, beepsheep2542, jan334232, mcmerg3, seriously3, _gn8_5, tgnl, fam0r22
Sorry when this sounds harsh. That was not my intention. I really like the server and just want to help making it more awesome.
Sorry for my bad English aswell.
What are the advantages of your suggestion?
We would attract more people to play on the server.
What are the disadvantages of your suggestion?
Some work to do.
